Thanks for your interest in making your business a little more environmentally friendly.
No straw at all is the best option, but some customers will always need one, so we are asking businesses to permanently change from plastic straws to eco-friendly ones. We recommend paper, but there are various biodegradable options on the market which look similar to conventional plastics. These can be a little more expensive, but the cost can be balanced out by moving to “straws on request only”, which can even appear as a sign on the bar or the drinks menu. You can find more details here on our Straw Alternatives list.
We appreciate that some chains are limited in what they can provide to customers, and so are asking them, if they can’t change from plastic straws, to move to “straws available on request only”. Please also mention our campaign to your head office. Even very big chains are starting to phase out plastic straws, such as All Bar One , McDonalds and Jamie’s Italian.
Please contact us and let us know about the changes you make! We would love to share your commitment on social media, and add you to our ever-growing list of businesses who have signed up:
